Specialist Plastic Surgeons versus Cosmetic Surgeons

Increasing exposure through the media, films, and other sources has led to rising interest in cosmetic surgery, and more and more people are undergoing invasive cosmetic procedures.

Despite this wider interest, many people remain confused about whom they should consult for advice when considering a cosmetic procedure, a 'cosmetic surgeon' or a 'specialist plastic surgeon'?

Australia has an enviable standard of patient care, a reputation gained through the rigorous training that doctors must undergo, the highest standards of professional accreditation, and federal and state legislation.

Cosmetic surgery is unusual in comparison to other areas of patient care, however, in that it is largely unregulated. This means that it is possible for doctors without specialist training in surgery to practice cosmetic surgery.

Make Sure You're in Good Hands

When contemplating any form of surgical procedure, it is important to choose a trained, experienced and certified specialist to ensure you achieve the best possible outcome from your surgery. For more information on plastic surgery, see the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons website.
