Since ancient times mankind has tried to make cosmetics to improve the skin and hide the effects of ageing. The bitter truth is that for the most part, cosmetic creams remained simple old-fashioned moisturisers offering "dreams of youthful skin" wrapped in progressively more modern and expensive containers.

The use of vitamin A in the formulation of skin care products heralded a new era in the treatment of sun-damaged skin. Although a few cosmetic houses were utilising very low doses of vitamin A in their skin care products in the 80s, Dr Fernandes, a well known Cape Town Plastic Surgeon  was one of the first in the world to introduce vitamin A in high effective doses. This range established Environ as a leader in skin care.

Today industrial waste and other contaminants continue to pollute the atmosphere, directly affecting the condition of our skin. The hole in the ozone layer is a reality subjecting us to more intensive ultra-violet irradiation and the corrosive effects of free radicals.

Being ultra sensitive to the current conditions of the environment, the continuous over exposure to the sun, particularly in South Africa and with a desire to further develop his range of skin care creams, Dr Fernandes continued his research and later followed the then established Environ Original range with the Ionzyme® Series. This range of products containing higher concentrations of vitamin A and C in addition to penetrant enhancers provides even better results in the reduction of photo ageing, pigmentation, blemishes and scars.

The principle and philosophy of the Environ creams is that the introduction of vitamin A and other essential vitamins into the skin works to "normalize" the skin and to make the skin look younger and smoother - hence products are not recommended for individual skin types (dry oily etc.) but clients are rather started on creams containing a low concentration of vitamins, building up the vitamin content to enable the essential vitamins to normalize the skin and maintain a healthy skin.

Environ skin care products are designed to protect the skin from ultra-violet light, pollution and free radicals, and to help treat and prevent premature ageing. The products are of benefit to all skin types. Only the highest quality ingredients are used in their manufacture. Most of the Environ skin care products are fragrance and preservative free, are non-comedogenic and are free of colourant. Most of Environ's skin care products do not contain animal ingredients. All products manufactured by Environ are not tested on animals.
