What is a breast reduction?

Breast reduction is designed to relieve the physical discomfort often associated with large breasts and to enhance the overall appearance of the breasts. During a breast reduction procedure, the surgeon removes excess breast tissue and skin, resulting in smaller breasts.

The methods of reduction and reshaping vary and depend on the patient’s breast size, needs and expectations.

Is breast reduction right for me?

A breast reduction may be a good option if you experience many of the symptoms of heavy breasts. These can include breast discomfort, neck, back and shoulder pain, skin irritation underneath the breast fold, indentations from bra straps, difficulty fitting certain clothes or discomfort during exercise. A thorough consultation is undertaken with a one of our Specialist Plastic Surgeons at Plastic Surgery Queensland. Your surgeon will go through the process and risks and complications will be explained.

What is the cost for the Surgery?

A financial quote will be given after consultation with the Surgeon. There is a Medicare rebate with most Breast Reduction surgery, however there is also an out of pocket expense. A referral will be required from your doctor before consultation.

Procedure

The surgery takes place at Kawana Private Hospital.

During breast reduction plastic surgery, fat, glandular tissue, and skin are removed from the breasts. This results in smaller, lighter and higher breasts. Breast reduction will help a woman’s breasts become more proportionate with the rest of her body.

Recovery involves:

2 weeks off work

Bruising and swelling is to be expected after your operation for 2-3 weeks.

A Garment is fitted after surgery and is required to be worn for 6 weeks.

Gym and vigorous exercise is not recommended for 6 weeks.

No driving for 10 days after surgery.
